I'm ilicia benoit and Ive been an avid stereo photographer for over 10 years using a Stereo Realist 35mm film camera and have recently made the upgrade to digital photography.
I now photograph with a Canon T1i with both standard and 3D lenses.
Although the 3D lenses available for digital SLR cameras seem like fairly new technology , the best I have found have poor construction and are unfortunately made of low quality materials. This often results in grainy and raw looking images, especially shots taken in low light conditions, such as the parties I tend to frequent.
The frame size of the lenses are very narrow since they must hold 2 parallel images in the same space as one standard frame, so the space of the composition is literally cut in half.
As a result, I try to take my shots off the cuff and on the fly, to capture the energy and personalities of these events, keeping in mind to snap a picture that will be an engrossing 3D experience :)
Besides photographing the dance music scene, I have been photographing more formal events, such as weddings and engagement parties, and will soon be developing a website to showcase my work in that field.
I have a BFA in illustration / graphic design from the School of Visual Arts, and have been in the surface design industry for about 10 years, with experience designing prints and graphics for private print studios, major retailers and fashion houses.
